The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)

8.5/10

Sex isn’t love; that is what I think the theme of this film is! So very, very funny! This film has a few brilliant moments, a bunch of very funny moments and is generally funny through out. Gets a little “Hollywood” at a few points but each time it does, boom they hit you with one of those thigh slapping moments to bring you back!
The idea alone gave me brain knots, I mean how can anyone go so long without even having, lets say bad sex or severely awkward sex? "40 Year Old Virgin" brought the concept around and made it seem plausible!
This film also has something that is rarely seen in films of this genre, a genuine heart. Between the guys at work becoming a lonely man’s confidants and friends and his search for real love, “The 40 Year Old Virgin” delivers on all fronts.

Steve Carell was perfectly cast in this role, a geek with a good heart. A man desperate to fit in, but so shy that he doesn’t try until pushed.

If you like situation comedy, you will flat out love “The 40 Year Old Virgin”!

The Plot:

40-year-old Andy Stitzer has done quite a few things in his life. He's got a cushy job stamping invoices at an electronics superstore, a nice apartment with a proud collection of action figures and comic books, good friends, a nice attitude. But there's just one little thing he hasn't quite gotten around to doing yet--something most people have done by his age. Done a lot. Andy's never, ever, ever had sex--not even by accident. So is that such a big deal? Well, for Andy's buds at the store, it sure is. Although they think he's a bit of an oddball, there's certainly a planet full of stranger (and homelier) guys who've at least had one go at having a go. They consider it their duty to help Andy out of his dire situation and go to great lengths to help him. But nothing proves effective enough to lure their friend out of lifelong chastity until he meets Trish (Catherine Keener), a 40-year-old mother of three. Andy's friends are psyched by the possibility that "it" may finally happen...until they hear that Andy and Trish have begun their relationship based on a mutual no-sex policy.

Evan Almighty (2007)

6/10

I was a big fan of Bruce almighty, and so gave this one a look. To say the least it was a typical sequel, meaning that it lacked the appeal of the first and tried to reproduce the same ideas and jokes with a slightly new twist.
All that said “Evan Almighty” is an enjoyable watch, but it isn’t what I would call a good movie. As for laughs it is full of them, the animal work in it is incredible, CG is fairly impressive, however it really lacks substance in plot.

What's next, The Rock Almighty with a David and Goliath motif?

I got a laugh when I realised this modern day Noahs wife’s name was Joan, Made me think of “Bill and Teds Excellent adventure”

The Plot:

The last time we saw Evan Baxter, he was being tormented by rival Bruce Nolan on screen, live from their Buffalo TV station. But as time passed and Evan has made up with Bruce, he's gone onto bigger and better things. Newly elected to Washington D.C. as a congressman, Evan has left Buffalo, New York in pursuit of a greater calling. But that calling isn't serving in the illustrious ranks of America's politics, but being summoned by the Almighty himself, who has handed Evan the task of building a new ark, much as Noah did before. With time passing by and his family belittled by Evan's newfound realization, Evan will have to do the work that God has given him in what promises to be an unusual adventure for a man who just wanted to serve his country, might actually be serving humanity.
